From dirt to a 2,880 sq ft gravel driveway that can handle any load.
How do you create a paved area that looks beautiful enough to complement a home, yet practical enough to handle the traffic and weight of a ton of equipment? TrueGrid, that’s how.
Challenge
This contractor’s home doubles as a storage yard for his busy Gallatin Valley landscaping business, Glacier Irrigation. 1/2 ton work trucks, skid steers, dingos, and trailers rest there after a hard day’s work. But his dirt driveway was problematic. Wet and snowy weather made it a mess, and the driveway became an eyesore. Taylor wanted a durable driveway that was not only cost-effective but also nice to look at.
Solution
The options were weighed. Asphalt was ugly. Concrete would be expensive. Gravel was affordable but a maintenance headache with gravel drift, dust, ruts, snow plowing, and having to regrade every year. He turned to the team at Montana Hardscape Hub, who recommended an affordable option that would hold up in any weather, stabilize the expanse of gravel, and required virtually no maintenance: TrueGrid.
To prepare the area, the landscaping crew excavated to a depth of 8”, installed geo-synthetic fabric for tensile strength and weed deterrence, and laid and compacted 6” of road mix for the base. Laying 2,880 sq ft of TrueGrid PRO PLUS permeable pavers was a snap (literally). Given the rectangular shape of the driveway, minimal cuts were required to fit TrueGrid to the space, so the crew had the pavers down in a matter of 3 hours. In came the fill material - 3/4” Basalt Gravel. The weight of the dingo was no problem for the empty pavers, so gravel distribution was a breeze. The gravel was compacted, leaving a beautiful, sturdy, and durable driveway.
Result
Driving and parking heavy equipment on his driveway is no longer an inconvenience. “I can feel the difference driving over the TrueGrid. The gravel doesn’t shift under the tires and the material stays in place.” - Taylor, contractor/homeowner.
When winter comes, snow plowing will be easy. And when spring arrives, Taylor can spend his time on other projects, since TrueGrid will keep his gravel driveway exactly how he installed it.
